THE HEART OF THE MATTER
The Malta Heart Foundation was founded in 2009 by a number of outstanding individuals namely, the late President Emeritus Dr. Guido DeMarco, Mr. Alex Manche and Prof. Albert Fenech, together with Dr. Lyndon Hadley Coates, Ms. Lillianne Hadley-Coates, Mr. Tony Cachia, Ms. Jo Cachia, Ms. Helga Pizzuto, Mr Martin Pizzuto, Mr Joseph Grech and the late Mr. Maurice Tanti Burlo.
The launch of the foundation was supported by Dr. Pierre Attard, the Strickland Foundation, the Mediterranean Bank and the Alfred Mizzi Foundation.
Despite the minimal funds available, over the years the Malta Heart Foundation worked hard in order to fight Heart Disease locally. Some of the Foundation’s most notable donations include, an intra-aortic balloon pump, exercise equipment for people awaiting a heart transplant and a number of Automated External Defibrillators (AED). A number of public talks to make the public aware of Heart Healthy Lifestyle were also organised. Further information about previous and ongoing projects can be found in the Project’s Section.
Early in 2016, the Foundation was passed onto a young enthusiastic team who carried out the re-branding and re-launching process. A new strategic plan for the upcoming years has been set, and a number of projects are underway.
The Foundation is now set on 4 main pillars
Increasing public awareness of cardiac health
Funding local research
